One of the major aims of the Committee is that no young angler should have to pay to represent their country. To this end considerable effort is made to raise funds throughout the year. The cost of the annual Loch style Home International between Ireland Wales, Scotland and England is in the region of £6,000 and when a World event is held a further cost of up to £5,000 can be involved. We always need and welcome help in this aim.
Thames Water have been very generous in allowing us to hold an Annual Competition for the Thames Water Shield on their Farmoor Reservoir in Oxfordshire. Usually held in late April or Early May. See “Farmoor” for more details. 2005 will be the tenth year of this event. A Raffle is held for prizes, donated by entrants in the main, and an Auction is also held, of further donated items. Bernard Cribbins has very kindly conducted the Auction on many years.
Masterline International is and has been our major sponsors for many years. Providing a full set of fly lines, waistcoats and tackle for the Team as well as providing prizes for Farmoor, the National Competition and for many of the raffles.
Barry Unwin and Fulling Mill have provided very comprehensive sets of flies each year for many years to the team for the boat International. Generously providing the patterns the Team Manager and other fishing friends have advised are appropriate for the specific water to be fished. Flies have also been provided for World events.
Anglian Water have been very helpful, over many years, in providing substantial discounts for boat hire and fishing costs. Also providing the Trophy Cup fished for each year in the National Eliminator. Assistance in loaning buoyancy aids helps greatly in ensuring the safety of the Anglers.
In the past Bruce and Walker had kindly provided fishing rods to members of the World Squads.
The Youth anglers themselves have and continue to work to raise funds through the sale of “Football Cards” and various other fund raising schemes.
Sport England, make a much-valued contribution, of £1,500 each year through the Salmon and Trout Association.
Very many of the Trade Tackle Dealers have allowed special discount facilities confined to actual Team members.
As you can see we are fortunate in receiving help from many people and Companies. All of which are much appreciated. However we struggle to meet the actual cash requirement. If you can help in any way please contact us and we will be delighted to talk and possibly open a new funding source. Our young anglers deserve their chance.
